During a Reiki treatment, most people feel very relaxed and energized. And
following a treatment or series of treatments, people often notice a
significant improvement in both their physical and emotional health.
We begin our Reiki session by going over some general information about Reiki.
I will ask you whether there is anything you want me to be aware of or to focus
on. When we begin the treatment, you may lie down on your back or sit
comfortably in a chair, whatever you prefer. You are fully clothed except for
your shoes. You may
close your eyes or leave them open, whatever is more comfortable for you. I
generally do not talk during the treatment; however, I encourage you to let me
know if you would like for me to move on from an area, spend more time in an
area, or if you are uncomfortable for any reason.
With soothing music playing in the background, I begin the session with an
energetic assessment of your body by placing one hand at top of your head,
while the other hand moves slowly down the front of the torso a few inches off
the body. You will then feel my hands rest softly on your shoulders. Once our
connection has been established, I will move my hands to various positions on
your head, then above/behind your neck, the upper chest, solar plexus, below
your navel and then off the body just above the base of your spine. I may also
work secondary areas on your body - shoulders, arms, hands, torso, legs, and
feet, as needed.
The key positions of focus correspond to the chakras-- major energy centers in
the body. During the treatment your body takes in healing life-force energy
(Reiki) which helps to resolve blockages and restore a sense of emotional and
physical well-being. You will probably feel very relaxed—you may even go to
sleep. Reiki does not function as a cure for mental or physical medical
conditions, but it does help facilitate your body’s innate healing process. It
does not involve any massage or muscle manipulation, only light touch . . . and
much of the time, I work in the subtle energy fields a few inches above the
body. Reiki is safe for people of all ages, for those with injuries or on
medications, and also for pets.
At the end of the treatment, I will use a gentle sweeping motion to smooth out
the energy around your body from your head to toe. Then I will bring your
awareness back to your body by softly suggesting that you bring some movement
to your fingers and toes, arms and legs, accompanied by a few deep breaths.
Although Reiki is not diagnostic, I am happy to answer any general questions
about the treatment as best I can. Anything we discuss of a personal nature
will be kept confidential.
After we have finished our session, you should take your time sitting up. I
recommend that you drink plenty of water for the next several days to aid your
body's natural healing/cleansing process.
Many thanks to Reiki Jin Kei Do Master Christine Radice for allowing me to use her
